Mindful Markmaking with Amanda Gorman
Slow down and switch off from the demands of everyday life and reconnect with the simple joy of making.
Mindful Markmaking is a gentle, low-pressure creative workshop designed to support focus, relaxation and creative expression.
Using neurodivergent-friendly approaches, participants will explore a series of mindful art-making techniques, combining pencil drawing, watercolour washes, pin-pricking and repetitive pen mark-making to create intricate and highly personal artworks.
Accompanied by a carefully curated soundtrack, each session flows between social, conversational making and quieter, focused moments. The repetitive rhythm supports a calming experience and focused attention.
Each week participants will create a collection of small artworks to take home while also contributing to a growing collaborative artwork which will be displayed in the local community centre on completion of the series.

Amanda Gorman is a Gold Coast-based multidisciplinary artist, educator and founder of DISTRACTD, a community organisation dedicated to supporting and educating neurodivergent individuals, families and professionals.
Her creative practice spans contemporary ink work, illustration, fine art, design and community arts, with a strong focus on accessibility, connection and creative wellbeing. Through her work as both an artist and facilitator, Amanda creates welcoming spaces where people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds can connect, create and feel a sense of belonging.
Driven by a deep curiosity about the world around her, Amanda draws inspiration from both the subtle details of everyday life and the broader natural environment. She has exhibited widely across the region through solo exhibitions, art prizes and group exhibitions, while also collaborating with fashion and costume designers to translate her artwork into wearable pieces, including designs featured at the Gold Coast Music Awards.
Alongside her artistic practice, Amanda is a passionate advocate for neurodiversity, regularly facilitating workshops, speaking engagements and community events that encourage creativity, understanding and connection.
Whether you’re looking to nurture your creativity, find a moment of calm, meet like-minded people, or simply try something new, Mindful Markmaking offers a welcoming space to slow down, create and connect.
