Moves Like… Ainslee Bree

Welcome!

We are so happy to welcome Ainslee Bree to the Everybody NOW! team as a Creative Producer Placement supported by the City of Gold Coast Professional Attachment Program.

Ainslee is an Actor, emerging Theatre Maker, and Movement Director with a passion for play and artistic curiosity. She will spend the next month diving into our new project Roller Coaster as part of Bleach* Festival. She has a secret talent for Word Mashing (it’s ok if you have to read that twice), Dad jokes, and singing late at night on lonely streets.

Ainslee is also passionate about stories, giving a voice to the voiceless truths and breaking silences in all forms but especially in art!

Read on to find out more about Ainslee and her work here on the Gold Coast and aboard, plus Art Crushes and what Moves her.

You can reach Ainslee on projectproducer@everybodynow.com.au Monday’s to Wednesday’s

Question 1

Q1. Three things about you that we won’t find in your bio?

  1. I once spent an evening singing “stand by me” with a person living on the street in New York City.
  2. I really love “dad” jokes, I will forever find them funny.
  3. If I need an escape from the world, you can find me in Stars Hollow
Question 2

Q2. What is your secret talent?

Word Mashing – give me 2-4 words and I will give you one in return!

Question 3

Q3. Who are your art crushes? (an official Everybody NOW term for people/ artists/ collaborators whom you love working with or love their work).

Aside from my nearest and dearest collaborators who inspire me daily, I would have to say Briony Kimmings. I am in love with her work and her power to tell a story and captivate an audience! Similarly, Joel Bray and his power of creating autobiographical work that moves and excites an audience.

Question 4

Q4. You describe your practice as a feminist-based safe, inclusive environment to break rules, give a voice to the voiceless. Why are you so passionate about this and how does this manifest in your theatre practice?

I have always been passionate about my work and representation as a woman in the arts and providing pathways to give voices to those who are unable to feel theirs. After I finished studying a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Theatre) in 2013 I moved to New York City where I worked bringing stories to life through multiple companies. Since moving back to Australia, I have fallen into the world of making theatre within a female-led theatre company (White Rabbit Theatre) and the world of Arts Health. I have worked in several Aged Care facilities across South East Queensland bringing life to bodies that aren’t used to moving regularly. More recently I have joined Vera Women’s Wellness as a Creative Director and Trauma-Informed Peer Support Worker blending the worlds of medicine and creativity. It is with this collaboration of the world that I have developed a deeper understanding of the impacts of trauma and the importance of having voices heard. This world has cracked me open and I’m not sure what is inside, but I am so curious to find out.

Question 5

Q5. What are you most excited about in joining Everybody NOW?

I think the most exciting thing about working with Everybody Now is the powerhouse team of creatives and the stories they tell in fun, exciting and meaningful ways!

Question 6

Q6. The purpose of our organisation is To Move Communities – that movement can manifest in many guises; physically, socially, emotionally, and culturally. To be moved and to move together. What moves you?

Stories, people who are bold and break silences in all forms but especially in art!
