Moves Like….Darcie Rae

What a time!

We have absolutely loved having Darcie Rae with us as Associate Producer supported by the City of Gold Coast Professional Placement Program.

Darcie is the Founder and Director of Glitter Martini, a performing circus artist, (who has an act where she walks on champagne bottles) and a digital marketer with a passion for creating work that brings joy and connection that isn’t too serious!

Darcie started with us in early July, right in time to be front and centre of, shall we say ‘go time’, for all things Roller Coaster! We have enjoyed watching Darcie create community connections with care and passion, and have seriously appreciated her love for getting stuck into tasks lists and even a mean shopping list!

Read on to find out more about Darcie and her time here with us Everybody NOW!, plus her art -crushes, secret talents and what moves her.

Question 1

Q1. Three things about you that we won’t find in your bio?

1. I have two rescued cattle dog crosses (we don’t know what they’re crossed with) who I absolutely adore, and who can get away with anything.
2. My first job out of high school was working as a telemarketer…be nice to them, they don’t want to be talking to you either!
3. I will pay extra for a window seat on a plane almost every time – I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of the view.
Question 2

Q2. What is your secret talent?

I can make excellent gnocchi from scratch. Well, if I’m honest the first time was a complete disaster and I had to order Thai take out as there wasn’t anything else to eat in the house…. Second time round it was excellent!

Question 3

Q3. Who are your art crushes? (an official Everybody NOW! term for people / artists / collaborators whom you love working with or love their work)

I love working with anyone who shares a passion for joyful and delightful art. I’m a big fan of Yuck Circus, Briefs, The Good Room, Casus, and I am a new fan of Everybody NOW! I also adore Anywhere Festival, which does such a great job of creating opportunities for the independent performing arts community.

Question 4

Q4. What has surprised you during your placement with Everybody NOW!?

How impactful the community engagement aspect can be for people, and how strong the connections are that are made by the participants over a relatively short amount of time. The work makes a big difference for the people involved.

Question 5

Q5. What has been a standout memory during your placement?

It was really lovely to see the Roller Dance group perform their full routine for the first time in the Tallebudgera Recreation Centre. It’s really amazing how well the Everybody NOW! team can pull people together towards a common goal so quickly, and how effective it looks to have so many members of the community performing together.

Question 6

Q6. The purpose of our organisation is To Move Communities – that movement can manifest in many guises; physically, socially, emotionally, and culturally. To be moved and to move together. What moves you?

People creating and sharing in a collective joyful experience. I believe that fun art is some of the most important art!
